Fruit, drink, grape.

The festive season is here and with it begins the holy nine days of fasting. For women who are always on the go, managing household chores and office becomes taxing. But ladies, no matter how busy you are, always remember health comes first. The key to keeping good care of your body during Navratri is firstly by avoiding any stressful situation, and secondly by choosing the right food and following a healthy diet.

Fasting can leave you with lack of stamina, and some women also experience low sugar or blood levels. Fret not! We bring you some great tips that will keep you in high spirits throughout these nine days of fasting and leave you in good health at the same time.

Take utmost care while choosing your foods

When fasting, do not binge on anything and everything that you find. Usually, people eat potato chips, potatoes, and deep fried sabudana tikkis throughout the day. Plan out the entire day’s diet in advance so that you do not feel lethargic while working in the office. Your meal should consist of fruits like apples, bananas, guavas and papaya that can keep you energised throughout the day. Also, instead of potatoes, go for sweet potatoes and try air fried sabudana tikkis in place of deep fried ones.

In case you feel low on energy, quickly eat a banana as it gives instant energy and keeps the tummy full for a long time. Also, one common mistake people make is to avoid salt throughout the day – this can weaken you. Try and take sendha namak in any food possible as it will guard against the weakness.

Diabetics need to take extra care

If you are a diabetic, make sure you time your meals well and eat onto foods that are nutritious so that there is no drop in blood sugar levels. Some snacking options that you can munch onto are dates, raisins, almonds and pistachios.

Keep yourself hydrated

Make an effort to sip onto liquids throughout the day to keep the water level intact. Coconut milk, sweet lassi, vegetable and fruit juices, plain buttermilk and green tea are a few liquids you can opt for. Apart from these, keep sipping water the way you do.

Watch for Acidity

Not eating for a long time increases acidity in the body, and this why some people face the problem of acidity in an empty stomach. Guard against acidity by eating every two hours. Keep fruits and nuts with yourself and munch them at regular intervals.

Do not stress and tire yourself

Last but not the least, avoid stressing yourself and work towards nourishing your body. Avoid going to the gym if you are fasting. Instead, take out 10-15 minutes in the morning and go for Yoga and meditation so that you can be well-prepared for the day ahead. You can also choose to include a few stretching exercises in this session.

If you keep in mind the above mentioned points, be assured that your faith and profession will be met without taking a toll on your health. If you are a working professional, with these great tips, now there is no need for any compromise on observing a fast.

Happy Navratri!
